We forsee this to be the first installment of many, and though we're happy to have what we have here for you, we want more. Hence, the guidelines page.

We are particularly interested in work (visual, textual, audio) that relates in some way to the North (broadly defined, as you can see by the variety of work in these pages).

We are particularly interested in suggestions for the Resources page. If you know of other North-related resources, please send them our way (though we're not looking for individual artist pages).

HOW TO SUBMIT TO CLIMATE CONTROLLED:

  • We prefer electronic submissions as opposed to print submissions, though we can consider both. Specific guidelines for electronic/print submissions are below.
  • We can use both unpublished and previously-published work, provided that you have (or can obtain) one-time electronic reprint rights.
  • If your work has appeared elsewhere, please tell us where and when.
  • We would like to see a brief bio / cover letter, though it's not necessary.
  • Please don't send more than 6 poems or 3 stories at a time, unless we ask for more.
  • No length limit, though we are much less likely to print extremely long prose pieces.
  • IMAGES: send low-res versions first. If we want to see higher-res, we'll ask for them.
  • Probably the best way to get an idea of what we're looking for is to read what's on the site.

    (Electronic submissions—preferred)

  • Send to: cc@thediagram.com with your name and "SUBMISSION" in the subject line.

Send attachments in MS Word or Rich Text (RTF) format, unless the work is short, in which case you can enclose it in the body of the email if you like.

(Print)

    Send TWO COPIES to:

    Climate Controlled
    60 Prospect NE #3
    Grand Rapids, MI 49503

Enclose a SASE or email address for response; sorry, but we can't return submitted work (unless it is slides or photos—those will be returned).

A NOTE ON RESPONSE TIMES:

Because we are all doing this for the love of the thing and not for any kind of monetary reimbursement, our response times are likely to be quite slow. Climate Controlled is not going to be a periodical, coming out quarterly. We will put out other installments as we can find appropriate material. We will try to respond to all submitted work within a month or two, but please don't query us until we have had your work for at least four months.
